Sonic Avatars & Moon Memories
Mayes Creative, with sound artist Justin Wiggan, presents a soundscape from their Lizard Beacons communications heritage project, celebrating the incredible communications heritage anniversaries on the Lizard Peninsula this year.
Sound recordings by Mullion and Porthleven junior school children (working with sound artist Justin Wiggan) and oral history recordings by Mullion secondary students (working with radio specialist Morag Robertson) create a memoryscape of the lunar landings, alongside interviews with residents of Poldhu Care Home and families and friends of Garras Junior School. Archive recordings of the Apollo 50 transmissions provide fascinating aural context.
Supported by: Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery, Arts Council England and Feast. With thanks to the residents, families and staff of Poldhu Care Home and the students, staff and families at Mullion Junior and Secondary Schools. Also to Goonhilly Heritage Society and the Goonhilly Earth Station team.
Playing on a loop in the Battery Station foyer all day, with an extended version providing a soundscape for The Orbit Stage
